Snakes? Snakes.

Y’know, Pee-Wee Herman is making a comeback? That’s a fine thing.

Historical Harassment

This is beautiful. Rachel Maddow talks about Jerusalem Syndrome, my favorite psychosis, and how the Tea-Baggers are being afflicted with a version of it while visiting…Colonial Williamsburg.

Radio, Radio

Karl Kassell is a legendary newsman and NPR staple.

Howard Stern…well, let Karl explain.

The Star Hustler

Jack Horkheimer, the Star Hustler and Star Gazer has passed away.

When I was a kid, on summer nights I would stay up late to watch Doctor Who on my local PBS. Just before Doctor who came on there was the Star Hustler, with his awesome delivery and wonderful music. Tonight, it’s hot and muggy here in Chicago and man, I just got bushwhacked by nostalgia.

I made this little tribute for the gent. Safe travels Jack, guided by starlight. Give it a listen.
Hustler and Who.

Cats Vs. Treadmill

The cats have learned fear. Welcome to August.

What the What?

I so want to now the story here. But I fear it would be very, very scarring.

Chicago wants your money

I had a lovely time with the City of Chicago today. A lovely expensive time. Elise got the brunt of it, but this…this is the line.

No, actually, this is the line you stand in to get in the line.

One funny story here. A loud and boorish man was in front of Elise. he shanghaied the security guard, peppering her with quesitons about “how long this was going to take” and “what was the estimated wait time”. This culminated in him saying “y’know, at Disney World, they have these signs by the lines that tell you how long you’re going to wait.”

The guard look at him, and she deadpanned “Sir, I’ve never been to Disney World.”

Random, hard-working security guard, for the win.

What a lovely lady

For decades, the GLBTQ rights movement has advanced a very simple idea. If you know someone who is gay you’re far less likely to be intolerant. Operates on the basic principle that it’s easy to discriminate against “the other” but it’s a lot harder to embrace hate when it’s your friend, your sister, your mom.

This woman, this lovely woman, is the embodiment of that. She won’t stomach hate because it would hurt people she loves. Just watch, it will make you hopeful, I assure you.

Oh, and when Sarah Palin or Michelle Bachmann try to lay claim to older female voters, remember this fine, free-thinking woman.

So much sadness

This story will make you cry for many reasons.

First, a loses his son in one of our endless, costly wars. Sadness

Then, he is told he must change the memorial he has built for him by the cemetary. Sadness, but perhaps understandable?

Then, the man states how the grave is a “second home” and he visits it “3-4 times a day”. Oh God, the sad…it hurts.

Finally, the man’ age? Eighty. His son was just 20 years old. Meaning he had his son when he was SIXTY. A sad, elderly man, mourning the son he sired in his twilight years.

I’m going to go cry myself to sleep now.

This, this is truth

If you need a bit of context for this, here you go.
